One of the challenges our customers face is getting their users to download their mobile applications. However, the most difficult thing is to achieve Apps recurrence. In other words, that users return and use it frequently.
When developing an App, the aim is to build a lasting relationship with the brand. That’s why we at Yapiko want to tell you how to get it.
What is recurrence in Mobile terms?
Recurrence is the repetition of an action over and over again. So, if we take this concept to mobile applications, it is possible to define it as the ability of an App to retain users as long as possible because it offers a relevant value.
The clearest example of what we want to achieve in terms of recurrence in Apps are the most famous applications such as WhatsApp, Instagram or TikTok.
Throughout the day, we almost automatically look at these applications and check them for updates. Arguably, these companies have created a very strong bond with their users and are almost impossible to uninstall.
Although there is no secret way to achieve recurrence in Apps, we can strategically guide the user according to their needs and the type of application we are offering.
What basic aspects must an App comply with?
There are some important factors to consider when developing a mobile application:
- Solve common problems: the applications developed must be useful and fulfil a user need such as listening to music, ordering food, making an online order…
- They must be unique and add value: this will make it possible to stand out from the competition and encourage people to choose our application.
- Simplicity and ease of use: the best App is the one that has a simple, clear, accurate and user-friendly interface.
- Focus on a specific purpose: when developing an application, focus on solving a specific need, for example: buying products, searching for information, contracting services…
- Being focused on a niche: specify the category your application will focus on, whether it is games, photos and videos, social networking, etc.
Uninstallation fees
Several studies have been conducted showing the uninstallation rates of an App. For example, Braze, a New York agency, in a recent study it conducted was able to provide data on uninstallation rates:
- Approximately 75% of users do not return after the first use of the application.
- There is a wide variation in retention from one operating system to another. For example, Android apps have higher retention than iOS apps.
- Games are the categories that are most successful in retaining the user.
Regarding the last point, we at Yapiko have been able to see this first hand with our game RFM, where you can become a football coach of the best teams in history.
User recurrence strategies
There are a number of actions that can increase app recurrency and, consequently, keep a user from deleting the app:
- Advertisements: one of the actions that most users dislike is opening an application and seeing a lot of advertisements. These are aggressive methods that only make users angry.
- Price: there are users who refuse to pay for an application, so if possible, offer it for free. Also interesting is the model freemium, where most of the services are offered free of charge but to access other more special or advanced services the user has to pay.
- Loading time: most users are looking for an app to load in less than two seconds, try to make this happen, as people usually don’t have patience and might uninstall it.
- Push notifications: care must be taken with this, as it can be a double-edged sword. On the one hand, it is a good loyalty tool, but on the other hand, if overused, it can be irritating. Manage your communication strategy correctly and control the number of notifications they will receive.
- Bad usability: navigation should be intuitive and smooth. A person who has just downloaded the application does not know how it works, so you can put a short tutorial where you guide them step by step.
